Kitchens That Take Their Cues From the House

Theolawrencebooks is a kitchen remodeling company in Scottsdale, Arizona. We work all over the city, but the houses we enjoy most are the ones with a strong architectural voice of their own: Santa Fe style stucco homes with rounded corners and deep window reveals, territorial houses with painted trim and brick coping, and the Pueblo Revival customs in the foothills with vigas running across the ceiling.

Those houses are easy to damage with a remodel. A kitchen chosen from a showroom can be well built and still look like it belongs to a different home. So we start somewhere other than the kitchen. We walk the house, look at the interior doors, the fireplace, the plaster texture and the ceiling, and we draw a kitchen that borrows from what is already there.

How We Work

We keep the process plain. A walkthrough and a conversation about how you cook and what bothers you about the current room. Measured drawings and a written scope. Cabinet and tile selections made against the actual house, not a sample board. Where the work moves a wall, a drain or a circuit, we prepare the plans, pull the permit through the City of Scottsdale and schedule the inspections. Where a community’s HOA reviews exterior changes, we put together that submittal too.

During construction, the sequence is predictable: demolition, rough-in, inspection, plaster and drywall, cabinets, countertop template, counters, tile, then finish work. We tell you before each phase what the house will be like to live in that week.

What We Will Tell You

Sometimes the honest advice is to spend less. Sound plywood boxes can be refaced. A layout that already works does not need to move. A house with a roof leak or cracking plaster should fix that first. We would rather give you that answer at the start than find it out halfway through the job.
